Twenty-two members of the Hancock BPA competed at the Region Business Professionals of America contest held Friday, January 26 on the campus of Alexandria Technical and Community College. Those 22 students competed in 40 events and qualified for state competition in 15 of them. The high placers in the competition included two Network Design Teams placing first and second. The Small Business Management Teams won first and third. Hancock also placed first place in Entrepreneurship and first place in Computer Modeling, JAVA, C#, PC Troubleshooting & Repair and IT Concepts. To advance to state, students had to be on a top three team, top 4 individual judged events, or top 6 individual tested event. Several students qualified in more than one event, including, Mason Schmidgall in 5 events and Emmanuel Chavira in 3 events, although they have to choose two to compete with at state. Several other students placed in two events. “Many of these students were at school from 7 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. practicing for the school play, going to school all day, going to their sporting events and then spending the rest of the evening in the Business Classroom getting ready for their event. I am pretty proud of their efforts,” said Mrs. Dougherty, BPA advisor. State competition will take place March 8-10 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis. Nationals will be held in Dallas in May. The Hancock BPA is advised by Mrs. Amy Dougherty.
